The Great Switch Off: Why it's Time to Upgrade to a Fibre-based System

Updated: May 23, 2023

The Great Switch Off is almost upon us, and as an internet service provider, we want to ensure that all our clients are fully informed about what this means and how it will affect their businesses.

Key:

  • ADSL - Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line

  • PSTN - Public Switched Telephone Network

  • WLR - Wholesale Line Rental

  • FTTC - Fibre to the Cabinet

  • FTTP - Fibre to the Premises

  • SOGEA - Single Order Generic Ethernet Access

Starting from 5th September 2023, it will no longer be possible to purchase ADSL services. This is due to the underlying PSTN, which supports broadband services, requiring WLR for both ADSL and FTTC products.

Ultimately, the copper cable that supports your landline and broadband will be switched off. As a result, it's essential to move to either FTTP or FTTC SOGEA since the PSTN will be completely phased out by the end of 2025.

This transition to a fully digital network is necessary to meet the growing demand for data-intensive applications and services.

Businesses that are still relying on ADSL services will need to switch to either FTTP or FTTC SOGEA before 'The Great Switch Off' which will take place towards the end of 2025.

While this may seem like an inconvenience, it is actually a great opportunity to future-proof your business and take advantage of the many benefits that fibre-based systems offer.

Here are just a few reasons why upgrading to a fibre-based system is a smart move:

Faster speeds: Fibre-based systems offer much faster speeds than ADSL. This means you'll be able to download and upload data more quickly, improving your business's productivity and efficiency.

Better reliability: Fibre cables are more resistant to damage and interference so will encounter fewer outages and disruptions than ADSL. This is particularly important if your business relies on a constant internet connection.

Scalability: Fibre-based systems allow for expansion and to be upgraded. Your business will have the ability to grow

Improved voice quality: With connectivity becoming the underlying solution for all voice products, upgrading to a fibre-based system will ensure that you have the best possible voice quality using VoIP telephone systems.

Future-proofing: By upgrading to fibre, your business will be ready for any future technological advancements. Fibre can be upgraded effortlessly and without interruption.

At Solve-IT, we're committed to helping our clients make the transition to a fibre-based system as smoothly and efficiently as possible. We understand that this can be a daunting prospect, but we're here to guide you every step of the way.

If you're still relying on ADSL services, now is the time to start planning your upgrade to FTTP or FTTC SOGEA. Don't wait until the last minute – make the switch now and start enjoying the many benefits of a fibre-based system. Contact us today to find out more.
